Continuity Induction Video Analysis
Brief:
The brief of the film was to plan and shoot a short sequence of up to 20 shots in which a package of some kind experiences a change of hand. We also needed to include 5 close ups, 1 extreme close up, 2 matches on action, 1 eye line match, pov, shot-reverse shot sequence, 1 camera movement, establishing shots and 1 non-cut transition.
Production:
To ensure we matched the criteria of what was needed to be included we spent one lesson deciding and mapping out what shots we were going to use and at what points we were going to interpret into our film from the brief. When it came to actually filming the film, we used a cannon and set the camera to the manual settings. We made sure that whenever we moved locations to adjust the ISO and adjust the focus of the camera. When adjusting the ISO we made sure that it was always below 800 and that the lighting around was the best it could be. The filming process went smoothly and we were able to complete all of the shots needed for our film in the time that we were given. One issue we did come across was some of the shots being out of focus. These scenes aren't major to the film so the blurriness doesn't make too much of a drastic difference. A way we could have fixed this would have been to watch the clips back straight away after filming them to ensure that they were all up to the highest standards that they could be. Another issue we came across was filming around one third of the clips with Loris having red hair for him to then come in with blue hair. This then set us back a bit with recording as it meant we had to re film the scenes from before so we didn't have a continuity problem. The lighting throughout the film was of a good standard but in some scenes it was a bit darker than others. A way we could have come across this is to use artificial lighting by taking around a portable light.
Post Production:
Once we had finished filming our films, we began to edit our films. When editing, we split into 2 groups of 2. To edit we used Adobe Premier Pro. We sifted through all of the takes we had and began to choose the ones which we felt would be best suited for our film. We sorted them into files and chose around 20 of the best shots. Once we had chosen our shots we began to put them in order of how we wanted them. After we had put all of the clips in the order we wanted we then began to trim the clips and make them to the lengths we wanted. After all of our clips were put together in the order and were the length that we wanted, we then went onto Da Font and chose the font that we wanted to use as the main title of the film and for the credits. Also we went onto Bensound to get the music for our film. Overall it took around 3 hours to fully complete editing our film. As it as our first time using Premier Pro, we didn't fully know what we were doing but the overall end product was how we wanted it to be.
Continuity:
When we were filming our film we tried our best to make sure that the continuity was consistent the whole way through. We almost ad a continuity issue when recording certain scenes as loris had changed the colour of his hair but we were able to re shoot the scenes to make sure there was no error. When recording the scenes of Maddie dropping the note and loris picking it up, we had to do them both in just one shot to make sure that the note was in the same place it fell as he picked it up. One continuity error we did face was the position that Jake was standing in when reading the note over Loris's shoulder. As the camera moves to them about to run away Jake is more turned around in a different position to where he was before. We were able to edit it so you cant really tell he was stood in a different position before he ran away.
